Dirty Motor
3ds max, After Effects, Photoshop, VRay
March 2009

Hi CG-talkers!
My latest piece. A shot at an old, worn out motor. There is actually much more in this shot than the eye can see. The scene contains about 540 Objects an 3 million polygons. There are brakes, wheel suspensions, suspension arms and more which are actually out of sight. Once I started the thing I just couldn't stop

I made a quick animation in After Effects (without sound though, but maybe somebody has an engine startup sound to share?) to watch here: http://www.rabatscher.com/files/ima...otorstartup.mov

Same scene from another angle:

All the V-belts and gearweels are animated as well as the dampers and springs.

And yet another one:

Here is the clay-render:

I used 3dsmax for modeling and Vray for rendering (Physical Cam + DOF and a few Vray Lights + Hdri in the Refl. Slot). Took me 3 days to model and texture the thing and about an hour to render on 3 machines on 2k. After effects was used for Post-Production.

Hit it!
Cheers Jürgen
